Surgical Technology Schools Guide

SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST TRADE SCHOOLS

Surgical technologists are responsible for preparing the operating room by selecting and opening sterile instruments, and assembling, adjusting, and checking non-sterile equipment. During surgery, they are responsible for using sterilizers, lights, suction machines, electrosurgical units, and diagnostic equipment and also maintaining the sterile field between the patient and the surgical team. Surgical technologists earn $13.29/hour on average. This may vary according to specialty, geographic location, experience, and certification status. Career opportunities for the surgical technologist are projected to increase as the number of surgical procedures for a growing and aging population escalates.
